Printable wall art is artwork supplied as a digital file. You buy it, download it, print it yourself or have it printed, and choose the paper and frame afterwards. This guide covers what is in a Larkspur download, how the three print sizes compare, how to get the files printed, and six pieces to start with.

What you get with a download

Each download includes separate A4, A3 and A2 JPG files, prepared at 300 dpi in sRGB. The artwork sits inside the sheet without cropping, with white space where needed, so some pieces have a border around them. That border is part of the print file. A square piece shows more of it than a piece whose shape is close to the sheet's.

A download includes no printed item and no frame. Where a piece also has a printed option, its piece page shows it, and the cards below link to it.

Which size to print

A4, A3 and A2 are standard A-series paper sizes (ISO 216). The table gives the portrait measurements.

SizeSheetOne way to use it
A4210 × 297 mmCan suit a small wall, a desk area or a group of three
A3297 × 420 mmCan suit a single piece beside a door or on a narrow wall
A2420 × 594 mmCan suit a main piece on a larger wall

For a landscape piece, swap the width and height. A3 has twice the area of A4, and A2 has twice the area of A3, but the width does not double each time. A frame also adds a border and sometimes a mount, so use the outer size of the frame when you plan a wall.

One starting point is to make a single print, or a group, about two-thirds as wide as the furniture beneath it. For a 180 cm sofa that is 120 cm. Treat it as a first sketch for your eye, not a rule.

Getting it printed

A local print shop or online printer can print these files. Before you order, ask three things. Does it accept a JPG in sRGB? Does it offer the sheet size you want? Will it keep the white space instead of cropping to fill the page? Ask for a proof or a sample if you can, because pale colours are hard to judge on a screen.

At home, check what your printer supports. An A4 printer cannot print a single A3 or A2 sheet, and settings called fit, fill or borderless behave differently between printers, so look at the preview before you print. Paper is a separate choice: matte, smooth and textured sheets look different, and a print shop can tell you which it offers.

The Journal has longer guides to each step: how to print digital art at home or at a print shop and what to put in your brief to a UK print shop.

Six pieces to start with

Here is one piece from each of six styles. If you are choosing a first piece, compare them and see which you keep going back to. Each card links to the piece page and its Etsy listing.

For hanging, follow the instructions that come with your frame and fixings. On stairs or high walls, ask someone experienced to help.

AI-assisted artwork, curated by Larkspur Editions. This is Larkspur Editions' own guide. Our artwork is generated with AI from our own written prompts, then screened and curated by us. It is not a photograph or a painting. Shop on Etsy opens the digital download, with print-ready files and no frame. Where a card also shows Printed options on Etsy, that piece can be bought as a print there too. See How it’s made for the full process.

Questions people ask

Do I need a special printer to print wall art at home?

No special printer is needed for A4 if your printer takes that paper. A3 and A2 need a printer that supports the size, or a local print shop or online printer, which can print these files.

Why is there a white border on some prints?

Each file fits the whole artwork inside the sheet without cropping, with white space where needed. A fill-the-page setting crops the image and changes the composition, so check the preview first.

Is the artwork made by AI?

Yes. Our artwork is generated with AI from our own written prompts, then screened and curated by us. It is not a photograph or a painting.

Can I buy a printed version instead of a download?

Some pieces also have a printed option on Etsy, shown on the piece page, with delivery within Great Britain. Where a piece has no printed option, it is a digital download only.
